Abraham proved that he was worthy of God when he attempted to offer his son whom the Lord promised to give him. As he was about to kill Isaac the angel of the Lord came to him and said “…Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.” — Genesis 22:12
Abraham’s act of obedience was a pivotal point in his walk with the Lord and earned him the title of the Friend of God (James 2:23).
- He loved the Lord more than his only begotten son.
- He loved the Lord more than the promise he received from Him.
- He loved the Lord more than his wife.
- He loved the Lord enough to know that He (God) was able to bring his son back to life because He is God …and… the promise was not yet complete…
…the father of many nations had to go through Isaac unto Jacob (Israel)….
Jesus said, “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.” — Matthew 10:37-39
And now here’s more proof of Abraham’s fatherhood. “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.” — Galatians 3:7
Do you love the Lord more than your spouse, children, family, job, career, prestige, etc.? You and I cannot love any person or thing which stands in competition with God and be His disciples at the same time. The Lord will not ever give His glory to another….
Isaiah 42:8 says, “I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”
If you want to get on God’s angry side? Say and/or do anything that is in opposition of His word, authority, and character! God is not in competition with anyone and will never give any graven image (whether alive or object) His praise. Only He is worthy of ALL the praise! Only His word will stand above (and outlast) all other doctrines!
- Let us not think of ourselves more highly than we ought (Romans 12:3).
- Let us learn not to think of any person above that which is written (1 Corinthians 4:6).
God is jealous …and… we mean, HE IS JEALOUS, SERIOUSLY!!!
Even one of His names is Jealous as the scripture says “…For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God…” — Exodus 34:14
Here’s another snapshot for you. If anyone believeth not on the Lord Jesus Christ according to the scripture … they are condemned already (John 3:18). If anyone will not repent, believe the gospel, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins … they will NOT be saved (Matthew 4:17; Mark 1:14-15; Acts 2:38).
Those who are baptized in water, and of the Spirit will be eligible to see and enter into the kingdom of God (John 3:3-5) — if they/we “…hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end…” (Hebrews 3:14). There is only ONE faith (Ephesians 4:5-6) … not many faiths as many of us (if not all) at one time or another believed to be true.
Believe what God said in His word … and live!
If we do not believe on the Lord Jesus as the scripture says (John 7:38), we will not receive His Spirit and will not be saved to partake of the first resurrection (Revelation 20:6).
